20 2017 | TECH Tipton Schools get dressed up for fall 2017 TEC® setting materials and Laminam® by Crossville transform dated finishes for three schools FEATURE STORY he three schools that make up the Tipton Community School Corporation (TCSC) PK-12 share a sprawling, multi-block long building on Main Street in Tipton, Ind. This past summer, Tipton High School, Middle School and Elementary School’s 26 restrooms, two locker rooms and the associated 21,000+ sq. ft. of wall space got a transformative update. TCSC’s dated ceramic tile and painted concrete masonry block (CMU) walls were replaced with the latest, technologi- cally advanced porcelain tile panels. Just 3mm thick, these newly intro- duced large 1M x3M gauged porce- lain panels require skill for proper handling and installation. Adding to the project’s chal- lenges, new-to-the-market setting materials for gauged porcelain pan- els were used for the installation. Typical for school construction, the Tipton project had an ambi- tious goal to be completed over the summer. However, for a project of this size to be ready by fall 2017, work had to start in May even though school was still in session. Contractor Blakley Corporation of Indianapolis was up for facing the challenges. They already had exten- sive experience installing gauged tile panels. Blakley’s has earned its rich 120-year history by approach- ing complicated installations with meticulous care. he three schools that make up the Tipton Community School Corporation (TCSC) PK-12 share a sprawling, multi-block long building on Main Street in Tipton, T Tipton High School: one of three TCSC schools.
