Eventually, tile attracted me because doing it properly isn’t easy. It is complex on many levels. A person has to be smart, edu- cated, experienced, determined, skilled, business savvy, a good communicator, and on and on. I think these are the things tile offers young people. They don’t know it’s an opportunity unless we bring it to their attention. They need us to be their mentors. Solomon Clark, The Builder, Groton, Conn. – We can never repay our fathers for their price- less investment in us. I framed and trimmed houses with my father and others for 15 years before I got into tile. I was attracted to it for the same reasons you were. Bill Vincent, Creative Ceramic & Marble, Bridgton, Me. – “My observation is that the younger guys have no real tool sense anymore... I’m NOT blaming them.” Agreed. No one’s willing to bring it to them and hand it to them, and most of them are too lazy to do anything other than pick up a joy stick and roll a bone. But that begs the ques- tion – HOW IN THE HELL did this idjit get the job?? Have an opinion?
