Mularoni was born in 1952 in Detroit (USA), where his father Cino and mother Edda had moved in 1950 from San Marino after WWII, in search of opportunities. After Cino’s successful work in the construction business, the family returned to San Marino in 1960, with Enzo in tow. Enzo studied in San Marino, then in Bologna. There he graduated with a degree in civil engineering in 1977 with the maximum score, and later that year, started to work with his father. In 1979, they started a new company: Ceramica del Conca, located just outside of San Marino. In the early ‘80s they acquired Ceramica Faetano ceramic tile company located in the Republic of San Marino – specifically Faetano, the family’s hometown. Over time Faetano became the holding company of the Group. Innovation has always been a focus, and Faetano was the first company in the world to pro- duce single-fired ceramic. Enzo focused mostly on sales, starting and then increasing exports. Enzo became a member of the execu- tive board of Assopiastrelle (now Confindustria Ceramica ) in 1991, and remained on the board until his passing this year. Enzo became president of Ceramica Faetano in 1992 when his father passed away, and Ceramica del Conca. Throughout the ’90s, exports increased and the company was modernized with new equipment for the pro- duction of porcelain tiles. In need of space, in 2000, the factory more than doubled in size. To sustain the growth, in 2002 the group acquired Pastorelli In memory: Enzo Mularoni Del Conca 116 TileLetter | December 2016
