During this two-day, cross-disci- pline show, NTCA trainer and pre- senter Mark Heinlein and CTEF direc- tor of training and certification Scott Carothers completed a total of eight presentations highlighting different aspects of tile installation, complete with live demonstrations. Over the course of the show, two complete floor areas were prepared, tiled, and finished. Presentations included dis- cussion of varying substrates, multiple methods of leveling and preparing substrate for installation, and the use and applications of multiple kinds of mortar, grout, and sealants. In addition, several tile installers took the one-day Certified Tile Installer (CTI) test right on the show floor. R|D|J attracts a wide variety of resi- dential construction professionals, professional deck builders, dock and railing professionals, remodelers, gen- eral contractors, marine contractors, and other specialty contractors from North America and over 20 countries from around the world. Applications now open for 2017 Tom Ade Ceramic Tile Scholarship NTCA is now accepting applications for the 2017 “Tom Ade” Ceramic Tile Scholarship. This $5,000 scholarship is available to children or grandchil- dren of NTCA contractor members or their employees who are currently in good standing with the association. The scholarship will be presented at Coverings 2017 in Orlando, Florida, on April 6. Tom Ade is a former NTCA regional director and a previous recipient of the NTCA’s Ring of Honor and Tile Person of the Year Awards. Through his gener- osity and support of training and edu- cation, funds have been earmarked to launch this scholarship. NTCA award- ed a total of $7,500 in scholarship money in 2016, and hopes to increase this total in 2017. NTCA State Ambassadors make a difference: Reinstating licensing in New Mexico The NTCA is dedicated to advanc- ing the tile installation industry in the U.S., by working directly with con- tractor members on issues that affect them in the field or the office. An integral part of this work is the State Ambassadors program. State-level ambassadors are NTCA’s eyes, ears, and hands on the ground, keeping the association apprised of changes that can affect all members. One example of this is a recent change of law in New Mexico. The state’s Regulation and Licensing Department Construction Industries Division (CID) recently ended the licensing of many construction-related trades, including tile installation. The CID explained that, since tile instal-
