I don’t ever think they expect us to be as competent or as knowledgeable as we are.” A great support system is a must, and these women have it – from gender-blind friends, family, col- leagues – and each other. “I am especially grateful for the guid- ance, support and camaraderie that has been developed between Connie, Kristi and myself,” Dalton said. “These two girls are day- in and day- out on their feet trying to grow themselves and every part of the tile business that they touch.” Pecoraro invites other women who are considering a career in the tile industry to “Jump on in! The water’s fine.” “The tile industry is a great career to get into,” Gumm said. “First and foremost, the industry is always growing and evolving so there is little time to get bored or compla- cent. There are also many facets of this industry whether it is design, purchasing or administrative work – there is something for every skill level to excel in.” A rock-hard work ethic and eagerness to “accept and adapt to change” are key for suc- cess in the field, she added.
