Contemporary concrete – This trend is monochromatic, minimalistic, with subtle surface textures. Halbert calls this trend “very eclectic,” and popular in urban industrial and farm- house styles, pairing rich deep char- coal with blue, greige, and gray. Decorative mosaics – This category has seen explosive growth, especially in herringbone, chevron and hex for- mats including 1” x 2” herringbone and 2” x 10” decos on mosaic mesh. Traditional patina tiles are also the rage, Halbert said, since manufactur- ers are now able to industrialize the process of these decos, which used to be handmade. Revitalizing the past – Worn- looking, traditional ceramic styles of yesteryear in 12” x 12,” and 8” x 8” formats evoke authenticity and com- bine beautifully when mixed with modern furniture. Hexagons – Hearkening back to the '50s and '60s, versatile hexagon for- mats are as at home in a vintage set- ting as they are in a modern design. Bricks – This trend reflects the revi- talization of urban industrial with bricks on backsplashes, fireplaces, and accent walls. They work well with concrete and reclaimed woods. And, Halbert said, it’s not just brick replicas in ceramic and porcelain, but brick cut in concrete, marble and wood. Metal Mania – Finishes include modern interpretations, rustic and rusted designs, plus matte and lappa- to finishes. Glossy inks are also used to synchronize with pattern details. COLOR TRENDS (continued) The monochromatic, minimalistic concrete look is perfect in urban industrial and farm- house settings. Decorative pieces have seen explosive growth. Hexagons, like these in Daltile’s Beehive, are on the rise in vintage or modern projects. Brick tiles (right – Marazzi’s Urban District BRX) provide easy installation but replicate the real look of brick. PANTONE® Color of the Year: Greenery – Pantone 15-0343 Looking forward to Spring? Plan on enjoyingitallyearlongwiththePANTONE® 2017 Color of the Year: Greenery. Greenery is described as a “refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is sym- bolic of new beginnings.” “Greenery bursts forth in 2017 to pro- vide us with the reassurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and politi- cal environment,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the PANTONE Color Institute. “Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalize, Greenery symbolizes the reconnection we seek with nature, one another and a larger purpose.” “Greenery is a fresh and zesty yellow- green shade that evokes the first days of spring when nature’s greens revive, restore and renew. Illustrative of flour- ishing foliage and the lushness of the great outdoors, the fortifying attributes of Greenery signal consumers to take a deep breath, oxygenate and reinvigorate. “Greenery is nature’s neutral. The more submerged people are in modern life, the greater their innate craving to immerse themselves in the physical beauty and inherent unity of the natural world. This shift is reflected by the proliferation of all things expressive of Greenery in daily lives through urban planning, architec- ture, lifestyle and design choices globally. A constant on the periphery, Greenery is now being pulled to the forefront - it is an omnipresent hue around the world. “A life-affirming shade, Greenery is also emblematic of the pursuit of personal pas- sions and vitality. “A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.” For more information about Greenery, and to view Greenery color pairings, and past PANTONE Colors of the Year, visit www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2017.
