In addition, materials from the tower would be uti-lized to create an artistic tree sculpture for the lobby.The challengesRetrofitting vintage marble: The proj-ectteamneededtoreclaimallthe vintage marble from the Capital Tower Plazabeforeimplosion.Eachslab hadtobecutandretrofittedforthe new structure. This laborious process includedtakingdowneachofthe marble panels, delivering them to the shopandrecuttingeachofthemto retrofit the new design. Fast-tracked phased design: The proj-ect required a phased design includ-ingademolitionandconstruction schedule. The marble panels and tile installationneededtobecompleted on track with the rest of the structure. Withstanding the test of time: The new governmentfacilitywouldreplace thenear50-year-old,historicalstate building.
