Rework is expensive, and delays are costly. They want the most innovative and highest performing products that offer speed of installation, contractor-friendly fea- tures, durability and versatility. WATERPROOFING–––––––––––––– Jeb Broomell, product marketing manager USG www.usg.com The trend over the past couple of years has moved from water-resistant systems to waterproof systems that provide long-lasting, complete protec- tion from water intrusion or damage. Traditional substrates, that are code approved, remain a solid foundation for any wet area. Sheet-waterproofing membranes and liquid-applied water- proofing over these substrates are being recognized as great additions for a superior installation. Another option is to use already waterproof foam panels in which only fasteners and joints need addi- tional waterproofing treatments. At USG we recognize the value of a waterproof system and continue to add waterproofing technologies to our portfolio to support this growing practice. SUBSTRATE PREPARATION PRODUCTS–––––––––––––––––––– BACKER BOARDS Fin Pan began marketing TI-ProBoard® in 2012, as a substrate for ceramic tile and stone, originally made for use on exterior tiled deck installa- tions. TI-ProBoard (pronounced “T”, “I”- for Tile Installation-”PRO” board) is a sustainable, durable and virtually maintenance-free underlayment for exterior deck porcelain tile installa- tions. This pultruded fiberglass com- posite panel is unaffected by expan- sion, contraction or exterior weather conditions, and is structural, without the need for deck boards or plywood substrate. Rated “EXTRA HEAVY DUTY”, TI-ProBoard is a Structural Ribbed Self- SupportingBoard(SRSB).Intheupcom- ing 2017 TCNA Handbook, SRSB’s will be an approved and recognized instal- lation method. In 2014, Fin Pan decid- ed to bring TI-ProBoard inside and the result was ClearPath®, which allows the installer the ability to create a barri- er-free shower without compromising the joist system. ClearPath is conve- niently packaged with all components needed to complete the installation except for the 4-1 sand mortar mix. www.tiproboard.com Johns Manville has launched GoBoard®, a new ultra-lightweight yet durable, waterproof tile backer board. GoBoard is engineered to be dependable even though it has a much lighter weight than cement and other heavy boards. It can be installed in residential and light com- mercial tile applications. GoBoard can be quickly cut right where it’s installed with a basic utility knife without crumbling or disintegrating. Also, it’s much easier to install than cement and other heavy boards. GoBoard saves time and money because you seal only the board joints and fastener locations for a complete waterproof tile assembly (Board joints and fastener locations require a polyurethane caulk/seal- ant per GoBoard installation instruc- tions.). GoBoard is currently available in 3’ x 5’ boards in two thicknesses (1/4” and 1/2”), and 4’ x 8’ boards in three thicknesses (1/4”, 1/2”, and 5/8”). www.jm.com/goboard.
