Over the last year, I have focused on posting updates on the devel- opment of the Apprenticeship Program and other courses avail- able on NTCA University. As we continue to develop new content, I want to introduce you to some of the apprenticeship modules for those companies who already have apprentices on board. Each company will decide what is best for their new employ- ees, but the first 10 modules in the 0-6 month Finisher Program were designed to be seen by the new hire – prior to stepping onto a jobsite. Orientation to the Job module explains what it means to be an apprentice and it also discusses potential careers paths in the tile industry. What to Expect on the Job module includes information on the tools and personal protec- tion equipment (PPE) that will be required the first day on a jobsite, what apprentices need to do when they get to the job and the tasks they may be doing that day. Finally, the module explores the end-of-day review they will do with the foreman. At the end of this module, employers can provide apprentices with logistics info: where they need to go the next day, the time they need to be there, and the person they will be meeting on the job if it is not you. There are also four safety mod- ules that should be reviewed by anyone new that you hire or whenever you feel that an employee needs a refresher. The Construction Safety Awareness module discusses potential hazards that can be found on any construction site. Safety Orientation Part 1 pres- ents the different types of PPE that a tile installer should use, the basics of safety data sheets (SDS), how to use a fire extinguisher, and basic first aid information.
